What were you like as a child?
As a member of an Air Force family, I moved often as a child. I was shy and had a hard time making friends. Each new town was another experience of being an outsider in the school.
Why did you become a teacher?
I knew I wanted to be a teacher from a young age. I wanted to help students who felt like outsiders. I found as a child that books helped me, and I wanted to share the love of a good story with students. For eleven years, I taught in a Seven Rivers classroom, and when the school needed a certified librarian, I went back to school, got my Master's degree, and began my SRCS library adventure.
What was a favorite book of yours?
The first thing I would do when my family moved to a new town was visit the school library, and if they had my favorite book, The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett, I knew that everything would be all right.
