Tell us about your family.
My wife, Susan, and I were married in 1981 and have raised four children who live at every end of the compass. We have eight grandchildren. We are beach people and are still looking for a beach around here.

What were you like as a child?
My mother tells me if she wasn't sure where I was, she would look for the quietest corner in the house, and that is where I would be playing. I wasn't a very strong student in school. It was my musical desire that pushed me to college.

Why did you become a teacher?
When I worked at a summer music camp for several years in high school, I really enjoyed taking a group of musicians and creating a band sound.

What are your interests outside of work?
I enjoy writing/arranging music for a variety of different groups. I also enjoy reading, Bible studies, gardening, and learning about Mediterranean cooking.

What is your favorite course to teach, and why?
Beginning Band. There is no better feeling than watching students' new skills develop and knowing you are changing their world for the better.

What is a fond teaching memory?
While teaching in a small Christian school in Michigan, I took the junior high band to the state competition. Competing against the best schools in the state, we brought home back-to-back Superior ratings!

What do you most enjoy about your job?
It's all about the music. It doesn't matter what age you are when you become a musician. Express your enjoyment of music to others through your instrument.

Anything else you'd like to say?
God has a great plan for your life, as He has for mine. Stand close enough to Him to hear that still small voice or feel the nudge in your heart to move in His direction.
